More about me: I specialise in online therapy. I am also able to offer telephone sessions and outside walk and talk sessions.
My work and life experiences have led to me being drawn to work with diversity and difference of any kind. I recognise that it can feel alienating and isolating to feel you don’t fit in or are different than others.
I am also interested in the intersection of mind and body, and have developed increasing interest in working with those with physical illnesses or disabilities that may impact on emotional health.
I am interested and work with issues related to anxiety, dread, despair depression and trauma at the Climate Emergency. This time in our history is unprecedented, and it is unsurprising that many are feeling such a sense of overwhelm and fear at this time of crisis.
I describe myself as a Covid Conscious Therapist. I recognise the devastating impact the pandemic has had on many people, either through developing Long Covid and/or other complications, or because you still wish to avoid catching Covid and are facing isolation and exclusion due to your continuing to take precautions. I also recognise and work with the trauma and loss that many have experienced as a result of the pandemic.
I have worked in mental health services for over 20 years, first as a social worker, then more recently as a therapist. It never ceases to amaze and uplift me meeting with people who are willing to trust me and allow me to share in their own life journey, if only for a short time. I feel privileged to bear witness to people’s lives, the way they have managed, coped, grown and developed, and for me to be allowed into their inner world. It takes extraordinary bravery to allow yourself to be seen by another.
What started me off on my own therapy journey was frequently feeling depressed, stressed, anxious, a sense of feeling isolated and like I was a misfit. I had my own reasons for this, rooted in childhood, and in various oppressions I have suffered. I have had my own therapy throughout my life, and have benefited from it enormously. I think anyone can benefit from a listening supportive relationship which is what psychotherapy offers.
I qualified in Social Work in 2001, and have gone on to develop professional qualifications in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (Post-Grad Diploma in CBT), in Group Analysis (Groupwork Practitioner), and have completed a Foundation Certificate in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, and am in the final stages of training in Intercultural Psychodynamic Psychotherapy.
I have also undertaken many shorter courses and attended clinical seminars and conferences to ensure my practice is up to date and I enjoy constantly learning and updating my skills, including learning so much from each client I work with.
